2022 Immigration Law Conference

Immigration Law-COVID and Beyond- The Road to Recovery

30-31 March 2022 | Melbourne and Online

The Law Council of Australia’s Federal Litigation and Dispute Resolution Section will be hosting its annual Immigration Law Conference on 30-31 March 2022 at the Langham Hotel in Melbourne and will also be available online. The conference will be conducted over two days and will canvass current issues in Australian immigration law against the backdrop of borders re-opening in the lead up to the next Federal election.

Welcome drinks will be hosted on the evening of 29 March, and the Conference dinner will be hosted on the evening of 30 March.

COVID-19 Compliance 

In accordance with the Victorian Government regulations all guests upon arrival must provide proof of COVID-19 vaccination. Only fully vaccinated guests or guests who have an official medical exemption (medical certificate or letter from a Chief Health Officer approved medical practitioner, with matching personal photo identification) will be permitted entry into the hotel.

Children over 16 years old must be fully vaccinated whilst children under 16 years old do not need to be vaccinated if accompanied by fully vaccinated adults. For further information please visit https://www.coronavirus.vic.gov.au/. Please note, vaccination certificates will not be stored on file.

CPD Points

It is the responsibility of the individual member to determine whether CPD points can be earned for an attendance of an event hosted by the sections of the LCA, as the mandatory continuing professional development (CPD) requirements vary between each State and Territory. Please refer to your relevant State and Territory Law Society in advance of the event for further information.

Registration for the conference is now open. Early-bird tickets are available from 22 December 2021 to 28 January 2022.

Award Details

The John Gibson AM for the Young Australian Migration Lawyer of the Year Award is an initiative of the Migration Law Committee of the Federal Litigation and Dispute Resolution Section of the Law Council of Australia.

The award recognises excellence by young lawyers in the field of migration law in Australia or internationally.

The winner of the award will be announced in March 2022 and will be presented at the Immigration Law Conference dinner held in Melbourne on Friday, 18 March 2022. Nominations close 5pm on Friday, 18 February 2022.
